I'll save you the narrative of road Connor Helleybuck; it remains a thing until it's not. The Jets defensively have been outstanding this postseason; ranking 2nd in expected goals against across all situations behind just the Panthers. Jake Oettinger has dazzled on the other end for Dallas as well giving up two goals in Game 5 that looked more like pinball than anything else. I understand the concern of elimination games getting loose late but both teams are capable of stymieing their opponents tonight; first team to 3 gets the W
We know about Winnipeg's road struggles in the playoffs. On the ice, however, the Jets have been limiting the quality chances Dallas takes and there have been only four goals scored in three of the last four games in this series. That's the other trend to note in this matchup, as games have been lower-scoring, after the under cashed in all four regular-season meetings and four of five thus far in this series, only once climbing above five goals in any game. Stars goalie Jake Oettinger has been at the least matching Connor Hellebuyck throughout this series. Play Jets-Stars Under
Just how deep is this funk on the road in the playoffs for the Jets? Not just 0-5 this spring and outscored 25-8 in the process, but since 2023, it now reads nine straight playoff losses by a whopping 45-14 combined score. Connor Hellebuyck's form on the road in goal for the Jets has been a major concern, not at all reminiscent of his home form which includes back-to-back shutout of Dallas at Canada Life Centre. Dallas counterpart Jake Oettinger, however, with .916 saves in the playoffs, is exceeding Hellebuyck in the playoffs, and can't forget how the Stars took out Colorado at home in the first round thanks to heroics by Mikko Rantanen. I took Winnipeg in Game 5 because I thought the Jets were in a great spot at home. They are not in a great spot on the road, where Winnipeg is 0-5 in the playoffs. Connor Hellebuyck was fantastic in Game 5, stopping all 22 shots. However, the road has been a different story for Hellebuyck in the playoffs were he is allowing just under 6.0 goals per game. I think the Stars are the better team in this series and I like Dallas to close it out at home on Saturday night.
Get asked often why I generally only play home teams (any sport). I just think guys feel comfortable with the background/rink/field, no travel, etc., and it's easier to stage a comeback at home than away. The Jets' Connor Hellebuyck is the definition of back at home/fade away in these playoffs. He pitched a second home shutout in the series Thursday but is 0-5 with a 5.84 GAA on the road. Winnipeg -- and Hellebuyck -- has lost nine straight playoff road games overall. So, yeah, the Jets are probably due and as someone who wants a Canadian team to finally win the Cup, I'd prefer they win. But I can't ignore the numbers.
